Coca-Cola introduces a bottle made with plastic from the Sea
Coca-Cola is working to remove all unnecessary or hard to recycle plastic from its portfolio. Thus, it presented the first bottle in the world made from recycled plastic from sea waste.
The first bottle made of recycled plastic from the seas, was presented by Coca-Cola, and was the waste collected under the “Mares Circulares”, a project to raise awareness of the problem of ocean pollution implemented in Portugal and Spain.
The work was jointly developed by Ioniqa Technologies, Indorama Ventures, Mares Circulares and Coca-Cola. About 300 sample bottles have been produced using 25% recycled marine plastic, retrieved from the Mediterranean Sea and beaches. They are the first bottles in the world made from marine plastic material and suitable for use in food and drink.
This was announced in London during a journey in which Coca-Cola has strengthened its commitments and announced new objectives with regard to packaging to Western Europe.
“Packaging has an important function, but it must always be collected, recycled and reused. Our goal, working together with our employees, is to make the term 'disposable plastic' obsolete, making all our plastic and therefore our packaging respond to the principles of circular economy, ”said Tim Brett. , president of The Coca-Cola Company in Western Europe.
