National Strategy for a Circulating Economy
A reduction of around 30% in raw material requirements, boosted by efficiency gains and resource productivity in a circular economy, will have a positive impact of € 3.3 billion in gross value added.
Improving the efficiency of water resources will contribute to significantly reduce the current waste of 35% in water abstracted in Portugal.
It is to achieve these and other goals that there is the Portuguese Action Plan for the Circular Economy (PAEC) published in Diário da República at the end of 2017. The PAEC defines the national strategy and a set of good practices for the circular economy.
In the case of the sectors, the first orientations of agenda go to the public purchases and the construction.
The document also advances with agenda suggestions for other sectors considered strategic in the transition to the circular economy: tourism, textile-footwear, distribution and retail. A previous Government study had identified other sensitive areas in the transition to the circular economy. In addition to construction, the emphasis is on transport (including logistics), agriculture, forestry and industry, which are underlined again in the plan.
