Guterres warns: Things are getting worse than expected
According to the report of the UN Environment Program, to halt the rise in global temperatures above two degrees Celsius, countries will have to triple the pledges of the Paris Agreement by 2030.
The document also says that in order to limit the warming to 1.5 degrees, countries that have signed the agreement will have to increase their efforts fivefold.
"The political will is unfortunately not as high as it should be today. We have important agreements - the Paris agreement - but the countries are not keeping up with what they have committed to," António Guterres told the BBC. The Secretary-General of the United Nations took the opportunity to leave a warning: "Things are getting worse than expected"
